Exciting property developments coming soon to Yorkshire and the Humber

£6.1 billion was awarded to construction projects in Yorkshire and the Humber in 2020, which is 40% more than 2019. These are the key property developments and contracts that will continue to make the region a major destination for investment and regeneration.

A variety of property at The Lisbon Street towers

£270 million has been awarded for the redevelopment of what used to be Leeds’ International Swimming Pool site, which was demolished in 2009 and has been sitting empty as car parking space. The plans include a variety of property: 600 apartments, student accommodation, an aparthotel, a coworking space, offices to let, and retail and leisure spaces.

£29m of improvements to York Railway Station

York station is going to get a serious revamp, including a multistorey car park, a ‘simplified’ road leading to the station, more bus stops, and an area of pedestrianisation. The plans also include the demolition of Queen Street Bridge which has been out of use for trains since the 1960s. The leader of City of York Council believes the plans feature ‘much needed modernisation’.

Green Port Hull expands

This waterfront development in Hull has already brought a £310 million offshore wind turbine blade manufacturing facility to the Humber. There are now plans to add a second facility and space for other relevant businesses, namely a shipping hub for renewable energy projects and carbon neutral manufacturing.

Former Water Treatment Works enters phase two

The North Bierley Water Treatment Works site in West Yorkshire is planning to expand by 120,000 sq ft to create ‘industrial and employment space’. Phase one was approved in 2016, allowing Keyland Developments to regenerate a site that had been sitting empty for 20 years.

A £30m business park near Sunderland

362,600 sq ft of commercial units will be constructed at Hillthorn Business Park in Sunderland. The business park is scheduled for completion in 2023 and will bring 1,600 jobs to the area.
